This replacement red tail light lens is designed for 1949-1950 Chevrolet full-size passenger cars and fits either left-hand (LH) or right-hand (RH) positions. Molded from durable automotive-grade plastic, it restores original appearance while protecting the taillight bulb and housing from moisture and road debris. A direct-fit GM restoration part that replaces GM# 5937861, this lens is ideal for classic Chevy restorations or maintenance, providing reliable light transmission, long-lasting durability, and easy installation to get your classic Chevrolet back on the road with correct period-correct styling.
Features:
  • Fits 1949-1950 Chevrolet full-size passenger cars — left or right side (LH/RH).
  • Made from durable automotive-grade red plastic for accurate light transmission.
  • Direct replacement for GM# 5937861 — designed for restoration and OEM fit.
  • Protects bulb and housing from moisture, dust, and road debris.
  • Easy bolt-on installation; restores original appearance and function.
  • Durable and UV-resistant for long-term use in classic vehicle applications.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 15-30 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Phillips screwdriver or appropriate driver for lens screws
  • Flathead screwdriver or trim tool (if applicable)
  • Clean cloth
  • Gloves
  • Silicone grease or rubber conditioner (optional for gasket)
Instructions:
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, turn off the ignition, and disconnect the battery to avoid electrical contact while working on the lights.
  2. Open the trunk or access panel to reach the tail light housing from the inside of the quarter panel.
  3. Remove the retaining screws or fasteners that secure the existing tail light lens using the appropriate screwdriver; set screws aside for reuse if undamaged.
  4. Carefully pull the old lens away from the housing. If the lens is brittle or stuck, use a trim tool or flathead screwdriver gently to pry it free without damaging the housing.
  5. Inspect the housing, bulb socket, and gasket for corrosion, cracked plastic, or damaged seals; replace any worn gaskets or bulbs as needed.
  6. Clean the mounting surface and gasket channel with a clean cloth. Apply a small amount of silicone grease or rubber conditioner to a replacement gasket if available.
  7. Position the new red lens (fits LH or RH) over the housing, align mounting holes, and install the original or supplied screws. Hand-start screws to avoid cross-threading, then tighten evenly until snug — do not overtighten to prevent cracking the lens.
  8. Reconnect the battery and test the tail light functions (running light, brake light, and turn signal) to confirm proper operation.
  9. Reinstall any interior panels or trim removed for access. Dispose of the old lens in accordance with local regulations.
