A direct-fit adjusting sleeve designed for 1955–1957 Chevrolet passenger cars, this US-threaded sleeve accepts left-hand and right-hand tie rod ends for manual steering and a right-hand configuration for power steering. It secures and aligns tie rod ends to re-establish correct steering geometry, making it essential when restoring steering linkage or replacing worn components. Constructed from durable, corrosion-resistant steel with precision threads, the sleeve provides reliable adjustment, long service life, and straightforward installation for shop or home mechanics.
Features:
- Fits 1955-1957 Chevrolet (Tri-Five) models — left-hand/right-hand for manual steering and right-hand only for power steering
- US-standard threads for correct fitment with original-style tie rod ends
- Steel construction with corrosion-resistant finish for long-lasting durability
- Adjusts and secures inner/outer tie rod ends to restore proper steering alignment
- Simple replacement for worn or damaged sleeves during restoration or maintenance
- Helps reduce play and improve steering response when installed and adjusted correctly
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Instructions:
- Secure vehicle on level ground and support with jack stands; remove the front wheels for access.
- Loosen the clamp or lock nut on the existing adjusting sleeve and use a tie rod separator to disconnect the inner or outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle or center link.
- Unscrew and remove the old adjusting sleeve from the tie rod ends; clean threads on the tie rod ends and inspect for damage.
- If reusing one end, thread the inner and outer tie rod ends into the new sleeve a measured distance to preserve approximate alignment; mark positions with a paint pen.
- Thread the sleeve onto the tie rod ends (left-hand and right-hand orientation as required) until initial engagement and approximate toe setting are achieved.
- Reattach the tie rod end to the steering knuckle or center link and torque the nut to factory specification.
- Tighten the sleeve clamp or lock nut to secure the adjustment; apply anti-seize to threads if desired to ease future adjustments.
- Lower the vehicle, torque the wheel lug nuts to spec, and perform a full wheel alignment at home with gauges or have a professional alignment shop complete the final toe/camber settings.
