Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes
Instructions:
- Park on a flat surface, open the tailgate fully, and support it if needed.
- Remove the old weatherstrip: pry out any retention beads, cut away adhesive residue, and pull the old seal free.
- Clean the sealing channel thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or adhesive remover; remove grease, dirt, and old adhesive until dry.
- Test-fit the new seal along the tailgate perimeter to confirm orientation and length; trim excess with a utility knife if necessary.
- If adhesive is recommended, apply a thin, even bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the channel or to the seal's retention lip per adhesive instructions.
- Press the seal firmly into the channel, starting at one end and working around the tailgate. Ensure the retention bead seats fully and the seal lies flat with no twists.
- Use masking tape to hold sections in place while adhesive cures, if applicable. Wipe away any excess adhesive immediately.
- Close and open the tailgate a few times to check alignment and contact. Adjust as needed before final cure time.
- Allow adhesive to cure per manufacturer recommendations before exposing to heavy use or moisture.
