Instructions:
- Remove the old fastener and bolt from the mounting hole and clean the hole area of rust and debris with a wire brush or file.
- If the existing hole is badly distorted, use a file or small punch to restore the opening to the proper shape so the cage nut can seat.
- If present, apply a small amount of penetrating oil and wipe away excess; this helps seat the clip in corroded areas.
- Compress the cage nut wings slightly with needle-nose pliers and position the clip so the captive nut aligns with the panel hole.
- Snap the cage nut into the access hole until the spring clip seats flush against the sheet metal (you should feel it click into place).
- Insert the 3/8" bolt through the mating component and thread it into the captive nut; finger-thread first to ensure alignment.
- Tighten the bolt with a ratchet or wrench until the component is secure. Avoid over-tightening to prevent panel distortion.
- Repeat for each mounting location, then check all fasteners for secure fit and correct alignment.
