This right rear frame rail is a direct-fit replacement for 1978–1988 GM cars, engineered to restore structural integrity to the rear section of the chassis. It provides critical support for rear suspension mounts, body alignment, and underbody protection, replacing corroded or damaged factory rails. Formed from high-strength steel with a corrosion-resistant finish, the rail offers long-term durability and reliable performance for restorations or collision repairs. Precision fabrication reduces the need for modification, helping speed restoration projects while maintaining safe, correct alignment of suspension and body components.
Features:
  • Fits 1978–1988 GM cars — right rear frame rail (passenger-side rear).
  • Precision-formed high-strength steel construction for structural integrity.
  • Restores rear suspension mounting points and chassis alignment after rust or collision damage.
  • Corrosion-resistant primer/finish to extend service life and simplify underbody protection.
  • Direct-replacement design minimizes fabrication and speeds restoration work.
  • Designed for welding installation; ideal for restoration, collision repair, and rust remediation.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 4/5
  • Estimated time: 3–6 hours (varies by vehicle condition and experience)
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands or lift
  • Welder (MIG/TIG) and welding safety gear
  • Angle grinder with cutting and grinding discs
  • C-clamps or welding clamps
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Socket and wrench set
  • Hammer and pry bar
  • Wire brush and metal prep cleaner
  • Seam sealer and corrosion inhibitor
  • Primer and undercoating paint
  • Measuring tape and marker
  • Personal protective equipment (gloves, eye protection, respirator)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake, and disconnect the battery.
  2. Lift and securely support the vehicle with jack stands or use a lift; remove rear wheel and any components obstructing access (brake lines, shock, brackets, heat shields, fuel lines as necessary).
  3. Thoroughly inspect the rail and surrounding structure to determine cut locations; mark the sections of the old rail to be removed.
  4. Cut out the damaged or rusted portion of the frame rail using an angle grinder; remove any spot welds and clean adjoining metal to bare, solid steel.
  5. Test-fit the replacement rail, aligning mounting points and ensuring proper fit with the chassis and suspension attachments; make any minor trimming adjustments for an accurate fit.
  6. Clamp the new rail in place and tack-weld at multiple locations to maintain alignment; double-check measurements and suspension mounting hole locations before final welding.
  7. Complete continuous welds along the mating seams per recommended welding practice; grind or dress welds as needed for a smooth finish.
  8. Apply rust inhibitor to exposed metal, seam sealer to joints, then prime and undercoat the repaired area for corrosion protection.
  9. Reinstall removed components (brakes, shocks, lines, heat shields), mount the wheel, lower the vehicle, reconnect the battery, and torque fasteners to factory specifications.
  10. Perform a wheel alignment and road test to confirm correct suspension geometry and that no further adjustments are required.
