Front lower ball joint (right or left) designed for 1971–2005 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac vehicles. This replacement unit features knurling on the shaft for a secure press-fit, restoring proper suspension geometry and steering control. It secures the lower control arm to the steering knuckle, resists lateral movement, and helps maintain alignment. Built for durability and consistent performance, it’s ideal for routine maintenance, suspension rebuilds, or restorations where a reliable, long-lasting connection is required. Easy to install with common shop tools and a press or ball-joint removal tool, the part offers dependable service life and reduces play that can cause uneven tire wear and poor handling.
Features:
  • Fitment: Fits 1971–2005 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac models (front lower, right or left side).
  • Knurled shaft for positive interference fit into the control arm to prevent rotation and pull-out.
  • Restores correct suspension alignment and steering response; reduces play and uneven tire wear.
  • Durable construction for long service life under road and load conditions.
  • Direct replacement for worn or damaged original lower ball joints — ideal for restoration or routine maintenance.
  • Simple press-fit installation; compatible with common ball-joint service tools.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes per side (depending on experience and tools)
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack & jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Socket and wrench set
  • Breaker bar
  • Torque wrench
  • Ball joint press or hydraulic press
  • Punch or drift (for removing old joint)
  • Hammer
  • Pry bar
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Safety glasses and gloves
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise vehicle with a floor jack and support safely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Locate the lower ball joint on the steering knuckle/control arm assembly. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and let soak if corroded.
  4. Remove cotter pin and castle nut (if equipped) from the ball joint stud. Loosen but do not remove upper suspension fasteners that will be separating tensioned components as needed.
  5. Separate the ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or pickle fork, taking care not to damage the knuckle. Support the knuckle to avoid straining brake lines or CV axles.
  6. If the ball joint is pressed in, use a ball joint press or hydraulic press to press out the old ball joint from the control arm. Follow tool manufacturer instructions.
  7. Clean the bore in the control arm thoroughly of rust and debris. Inspect the control arm for cracks or damage and replace if necessary.
  8. Align the new knurled ball joint shaft with the control arm bore. Use a ball joint press or hydraulic press to press the new unit squarely into the control arm until fully seated. Do not hammer directly on the stud.
  9. Reinstall the steering knuckle onto the ball joint stud. Install the castle nut (or specified nut) and torque to the vehicle manufacturer’s specification. Install a new cotter pin if required.
  10. Reassemble any suspension components removed or loosened, torquing all fasteners to factory specs. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to spec.
  11. Perform a test drive and have a professional wheel alignment if suspension geometry was altered or if the vehicle shows alignment issues.
