Replacement idler arm for 1974–1977 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac vehicles. This steering idler arm supports the steering linkage on the passenger side, maintaining proper alignment and reducing play in the front-end for safer, more precise steering. Built for durability and reliable performance, it’s an essential component for restoring original steering feel and eliminating looseness caused by worn or failing idler arms. Ideal for restoration projects and routine maintenance, this part helps ensure consistent steering geometry and prolongs the life of related suspension components.
Features:
- Fitment: Direct-fit idler arm for 1974–1977 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models.
- Constructed from heavy-duty steel with corrosion-resistant coating for long service life.
- Designed to stabilize steering linkage, reduce play, and restore proper front-end alignment.
- Pre-greased bushing for smoother operation and reduced initial break-in wear.
- Direct replacement for worn or damaged OE idler arms — ideal for restorations and maintenance.
- Easy-to-install design that works with factory mounting points and hardware.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, set parking brake, and lift the front of the vehicle with a jack; secure on jack stands.
- Remove the front wheel on the side of the idler arm to access the steering linkage.
- Locate the idler arm where the steering linkage connects to the frame on the passenger side; inspect surrounding components.
- Loosen and remove the nut securing the idler arm stud to the center link or relay rod. Use a ball joint separator or pickle fork if necessary to separate the joint.
- Support the idler arm bracket and remove the mounting bolts attaching the idler arm to the frame.
- Remove the old idler arm and clean the mounting surface of dirt and corrosion. Compare new part to old to confirm fitment.
- Position the new idler arm on the mounting surface and hand-start the mounting bolts. Torque mounting bolts to factory specifications.
- Reconnect the idler arm stud to the center link and install the nut. Torque the nut to the specified value and install cotter pin if applicable.
- If the new part has a grease fitting, apply grease until fresh grease appears at the seals; follow lubrication recommendations.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Test-drive at low speed to verify steering response and check for unusual noises. Have front-end alignment checked and adjusted as needed.
