Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30–90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface and work in a well-ventilated area. Remove any interior trim necessary to access the rear window channel.
- Carefully remove the old weatherstrip and any retaining clips or adhesives. Use a pick or small screwdriver to lift stubborn sections without damaging metal or glass.
- Thoroughly clean the channel and surrounding surfaces with isopropyl alcohol or approved solvent to remove dirt, old adhesive, and oils. Allow to dry completely.
- Test-fit each new piece in place without adhesive to confirm orientation and fit. Trim any excess length as required using a utility knife or scissors.
- Apply a thin, even bead of weatherstrip adhesive to the channel or mating surface per adhesive manufacturer instructions (some kits are push-in and may not require adhesive).
- Starting at one corner, press the new weatherstrip into the channel, working around the window and seating corners first to ensure proper alignment. Use a plastic trim tool to fully seat the seal without pinching or stretching.
- Secure any clips or fasteners removed during disassembly. Use masking tape to hold seals in position while adhesive cures if required.
- Trim any excess material and wipe away adhesive squeeze-out immediately. Reinstall interior trim pieces.
- Allow adhesive to cure for the recommended time before exposing to moisture or driving (typically 24 hours). Check for uniform seating and perform a water test to confirm a watertight seal.
