Outer tie rod end (right/left hand) for 1958-1962 Chevrolet passenger cars. Designed to replace worn or damaged outer tie rod ends and restore proper steering alignment and road feel. This heavy-duty, OE-style component secures the steering linkage to the steering knuckle, reduces play, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Built for durability and reliable performance, it’s an ideal part for restorations, maintenance, and safety-focused repairs.
Features:
- Fits 1958–1962 Chevrolet full-size passenger cars (outer tie rod end, right and left hand applications).
- OE-style fitment to restore correct steering geometry and eliminate steering play.
- Durable construction with corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
- Sealed ball joint design to reduce contamination and extend component life.
- Easy replacement part for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance.
- Helps prevent premature tire wear and improves steering responsiveness.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, then lift front of vehicle with a jack and support with jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end connecting the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod. Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the threaded adjuster (count turns or mark with a paint pen) to preserve alignment.
- Loosen the jam nut on the tie rod adjuster. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut from the tie rod end stud.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end stud from the steering knuckle. Take care not to damage the steering knuckle taper.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod by turning it the required number of turns to match the previously marked position. Remove the old tie rod end.
- Install the new outer tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod to the marked position. Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end to secure the adjustment.
- Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle and tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque. Install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
