Inner tie rod end for 1971-1976 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac vehicles designed to restore steering precision and safety. This replacement inner tie rod connects the steering rack to the outer tie rod, maintaining proper steering geometry and absorbing road forces. Built to meet OE fit and function, it helps eliminate play, reduces steering wander, and prolongs the life of related suspension components. Ideal for classic car restoration or routine maintenance, it offers reliable performance, corrosion resistance, and straightforward installation for DIY mechanics and professional technicians alike.
Features:
  • Fits 1971-1976 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac models (inner tie rod, right/left hand applications).
  • Constructed from high-strength steel for durability and long service life.
  • Restores proper steering alignment and eliminates play in the steering linkage.
  • Precision-threaded design ensures secure fastening and accurate fitment.
  • Protective finish resists corrosion and wear from road exposure.
  • Direct replacement for worn or damaged inner tie rods during restoration or maintenance.
  • Simple installation for most DIYers; compatible with standard steering service procedures.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands or vehicle lift
  • Wheel chocks
  • Wrenches and sockets (including adjustable wrench)
  • Tie rod separator or pickle fork
  • Torque wrench
  • Hammer
  • Pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease (if applicable)
  • Replacement cotter pins (if used)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
  2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and secure on jack stands; remove the front wheel on the side you’re working.
  3. Spray penetrating oil on nuts and threads of the inner and outer tie rod connections; allow to soak if rusted.
  4. Loosen the jam nut on the outer tie rod and mark or count turns to preserve alignment roughly; unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod.
  5. Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod separator or pickle fork.
  6. Remove the inner tie rod by loosening and unthreading it from the steering rack; retain any washers or clips if needed or replace as necessary.
  7. Inspect the steering rack boot and components for wear; replace boot if damaged before installing the new inner tie rod.
  8. Thread the new inner tie rod into the steering rack to the same approximate length/position as the old unit; tighten to the specified torque for your vehicle.
  9. Reattach the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and tighten the jam nut to secure the adjustment. Replace any cotter pins if applicable.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
  11. Check and adjust the vehicle alignment as soon as possible; a professional alignment is recommended after steering component replacement.
