Outer tie rod end (right/left hand) designed for 1971–1976 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models. This replacement steering component secures the steering linkage to the steering knuckle, allowing precise wheel alignment and smooth steering response. Built from hardened steel with a protective finish and a sealed ball joint, it reduces play, resists corrosion, and restores factory steering geometry for safer, more reliable handling. Ideal for restoration projects or routine maintenance, this tie rod end offers durable performance and straightforward installation to get classic vehicles back on the road with confidence.
Features:
  • Fits 1971–1976 Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models (outer tie rod end, right/left hand).
  • Hardened steel construction for long-lasting strength and wear resistance.
  • Sealed ball joint design to retain grease and keep out contaminants.
  • Restores correct steering geometry and reduces steering play and vibration.
  • Protective finish resists rust and corrosion for extended service life.
  • Direct replacement for worn or damaged outer tie rod ends — ideal for restorations.
  • Easy to install with common hand tools; available for both right and left hand applications.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Torque wrench
  • Wrenches/sockets (various sizes)
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Pliers
  • Penetrating oil
  • Grease (if required)
  • Measuring tape or caliper (for alignment)
  • Wheel chocks
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the vehicle with a floor jack, and secure on jack stands.
  3. Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod end.
  4. Apply penetrating oil to the castellated nut and tie rod threads if corroded.
  5. Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod while counting the number of turns required to remove the outer tie rod end (or measure threaded length) to preserve alignment.
  6. Remove the castellated nut securing the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
  7. Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork; avoid damaging the ball joint boot.
  8. Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the counted number of turns (or to the measured length).
  9. Thread the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same position; tighten the jam nut against the new tie rod end.
  10. Install the new tie rod stud into the steering knuckle and torque the castellated nut to manufacturer specification; insert a new cotter pin if applicable.
  11. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
  12. Check and adjust front toe alignment; have a professional alignment performed if precise alignment equipment is not available.
