Inner tie rod end (right/left hand) designed as a direct replacement for 1976–1987 Chevrolet and Pontiac passenger cars and light trucks. This steering linkage component secures the inner tie rod to the steering rack or center link, maintaining alignment and precise steering input. Built to resist wear and provide reliable performance, it restores proper steering feel, reduces play and vibration, and helps prevent premature tire wear. Engineered for durability and straightforward installation, it’s an ideal part for steering system repairs and classic vehicle restorations.
Features:
  • Fits: 1976–1987 Chevrolet and Pontiac models (inner tie rod end, right or left hand application).
  • Direct-fit replacement for OE-style inner tie rod ends to restore steering accuracy.
  • Durable construction and corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
  • Function: secures inner tie rod to steering rack/center link to reduce play and vibration.
  • Easy to install with common hand tools; suitable for restoration and maintenance projects.
  • Helps prevent uneven tire wear and improves overall steering response.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 30–90 minutes per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • Lug wrench
  • Combination wrenches or socket set
  • Tie rod separator (pickle fork) or ball joint press
  • Pliers
  • Torque wrench
  • Grease (if required) and rag
  • Marker or paint pen
Instructions:
  1. Park on a level surface, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
  2. Raise the vehicle and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel to access the tie rod assembly.
  3. Locate the inner tie rod end on the steering rack or center link. Mark the position of the outer tie rod on the threaded portion or count turns to preserve alignment.
  4. Loosen and remove the retaining nut securing the tie rod end stud. Use a tie rod separator or appropriate tool to separate the tie rod end from the steering arm/center link.
  5. Unscrew the inner tie rod end from the rack/inner assembly. Inspect mating surfaces and threads; clean as needed.
  6. Install the new inner tie rod by threading it to the factory position (match the count/mark) and tighten to the manufacturer’s torque specification.
  7. Reconnect the outer tie rod end to the steering arm/center link, install the retaining nut, torque to spec, and secure with a new cotter pin if applicable.
  8. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification. Check steering operation and ensure no binding.
  9. Because precise toe alignment is critical, have a professional wheel alignment performed after replacement to ensure proper tire wear and handling.
