Precision-engineered tie rod end bushings designed to restore tight, responsive steering on 1982–1998 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac vehicles. These bushings replace worn factory rubber to eliminate play and reduce steering wander, improving alignment retention and tire wear. Made from a durable, high-durometer elastomer that resists oil, road salt, and aging, they provide long-lasting performance and a firm steering feel while absorbing harsh road shock. Ideal for restoration or maintenance, they’re a direct-fit replacement that helps return factory steering geometry and reliability.
Features:
- Fits 1982–1998 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models (direct-fit application).
- Durable high-durometer elastomer construction resists oil, salt, and weathering for long life.
- Restores steering precision by eliminating tie rod end play and reducing steering wander.
- Helps maintain alignment settings and reduces premature tire wear.
- Simple direct-replacement design for straightforward installation during suspension service or restoration.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side (depending on vehicle and experience)
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, chock rear wheels, loosen front lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end and apply penetrating oil to the nut and threads if needed.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and back it off to free the outer tie rod end.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut securing the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle.
- Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle; avoid damaging the boot.
- Unthread the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns noted during removal to preserve alignment settings.
- Inspect the inner tie rod and install the new bushing onto the tie rod end or at the specified location per vehicle design; some applications require pressing the bushing into the knuckle or control arm—use a press or appropriate driver if necessary.
- Reinstall the outer tie rod end, torque the nut to factory specification and secure with a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Tighten the jam nut to lock the tie rod end in place, reattach the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
- Test-drive at low speed to check steering response and have a professional alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry.
