Premium replacement tie rod end designed for 1982-1998 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac vehicles. This critical steering component secures the steering linkage to the wheel hub, maintaining alignment and precise steering response. Constructed from hardened alloy with protective corrosion-resistant plating and a sealed grease boot, it delivers long-lasting durability, reduced play, and reliable performance for restoration or routine maintenance. Easy to install with common hand tools, it restores steering accuracy, reduces vibration, and helps prevent premature tire wear.
Features:
- Fitment: Designed to fit 1982-1998 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models (verify vehicle-specific application with VIN or parts lookup).
- Durable construction: Hardened alloy stud and housing with corrosion-resistant finish for extended service life.
- Sealed boot: Protective, grease-sealed dust boot helps retain lubricant and keep contaminants out.
- Function: Secures steering linkage to the steering knuckle, maintaining alignment and precise steering response.
- Ease of use: Direct replacement part engineered for straightforward installation with standard tools.
- Restoration-ready: Ideal for restoring worn steering components to reduce play and improve handling.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30-60 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, then raise the vehicle and secure on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end where it connects to the steering knuckle and the inner tie rod/steering linkage.
- Mark or count the number of exposed threads between the tie rod end and the adjuster sleeve to preserve alignment, or measure the toe setting.
- Loosen the jam nut on the adjuster sleeve, then loosen and remove the castellated nut or retaining nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use penetrating oil if needed.
- Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or a pickle fork and hammer. Avoid damaging the seal boot on adjacent components.
- Unscrew the tie rod end from the adjuster sleeve. If replacing only the outer tie rod, back off the old part the same number of turns as recorded earlier.
- Thread the new tie rod end onto the adjuster sleeve the same number of turns used previously so the alignment remains close to spec.
- Insert the tie rod stud into the steering knuckle and secure with the supplied nut. Tighten to the vehicle manufacturer’s specified torque and install a cotter pin if required.
- Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end to lock the adjustment in place.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional alignment performed as soon as possible to ensure correct toe settings and prevent uneven tire wear.
