Precision Windshield Weatherstrip Seal WCR 853 is an OEM-style windshield sealing gasket engineered with an integrated trim groove to accept a lockstrip. It creates a tight, continuous seal between the windshield glass and vehicle body to prevent water intrusion, wind noise and road vibration while protecting the glass edge from damage. Made for restoration and replacement applications, this durable weatherstrip is UV- and ozone-resistant and designed for reliable, long-lasting performance and an accurate, secure fit.
Features:
- Integrated trim groove accepts a lockstrip (WCR 853) for secure windshield retention.
- Made from durable, UV- and ozone-resistant rubber for long service life.
- Seals the windshield to prevent water leaks, wind noise and dust intrusion.
- Helps reduce vibration and protects the glass edge during installation and use.
- OEM-style profile for accurate fit and straightforward restoration or replacement.
- Designed for easy installation with a lockstrip; compatible with standard trim tools.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1-2 hours (may vary with vehicle and whether glass is removed)
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, disconnect battery if recommended, and protect paint and interior trim.
- Remove the old weatherstrip and any existing lockstrip: cut carefully with a utility knife and pry out old gasket pieces using a trim tool.
- Thoroughly clean the pinch-weld and glass edge with isopropyl alcohol; remove all old adhesive, dirt and corrosion for a proper seal.
- Test-fit the new weatherstrip around the windshield or body opening to confirm orientation and fit before final assembly.
- If recommended for your application, apply a thin bead of urethane or primer per vehicle instructions; otherwise use a lubricant (soapy water or silicone spray) to ease installation.
- Seat the weatherstrip onto the windshield edge or body flange as intended (some seals mount to the glass, others to the body). Work the profile evenly around the perimeter, using gentle pressure and a roller or block to avoid kinks.
- Insert the lockstrip into the weatherstrip trim groove: align and press or roll it into the groove with a lockstrip roller or gently tap it with a hammer and wood/nylon block until fully seated.
- Carefully set the windshield into the sealed opening (if glass was removed) with a helper or suction cups, ensuring even engagement of the weatherstrip. Check for even compression and complete seating.
- Trim any excess weatherstrip or lockstrip as needed and reinstall any trim pieces. Clean up excess lubricant and inspect for gaps.
- Allow any adhesive (if used) to cure per manufacturer's recommendations before driving; recheck for leaks and fit after first road test.
