Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels. Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel on the side being serviced.
- Locate the inner tie rod end on the steering linkage and apply penetrating oil to fasteners if needed.
- Remove any retaining hardware (cotter pin, castle nut, or lock nut) from the outer tie rod and separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork if necessary.
- Unscrew and remove the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod to expose the inner tie rod end connection.
- Loosen and remove the inner tie rod end from the steering rack or linkage, noting the threaded orientation and any jam nut position for reference.
- Install the new inner left-hand tie rod end by threading it onto the steering rack or linkage to the same position as the original. Tighten to the vehicle manufacturer’s specified torque.
- Reassemble the outer tie rod, reconnect to the steering knuckle, and install any new retaining hardware. Secure cotter pins or locking devices as required.
- If the tie rod end is greaseable, apply grease using a grease gun until the boot is properly seated. Ensure protective boot is undamaged and seated.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering geometry and tire wear.
