Front lower ball joint for 1963-1982 Chevrolet cars and light trucks, designed to replace worn or damaged factory joints and restore safe steering and suspension geometry. This heavy-duty replacement ball joint secures the control arm to the steering knuckle, maintaining proper alignment while resisting wear from road stress. Built for durability and reliable performance, it helps reduce vibration, improve handling, and prevent premature tire wear. Ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance.
Features:
  • Fits 1963-1982 Chevrolet passenger cars and light trucks (front lower, right or left hand application).
  • Precision-machined steel housing for strength and long service life.
  • Secures control arm to steering knuckle to maintain correct suspension geometry.
  • Reduces vibration and steering play for improved handling and tire longevity.
  • Pre-greased or serviceable design (specify style) for ease of maintenance and extended life.
  • Direct-replacement part for restoration or routine suspension repair.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 1-2 hours per side
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands
  • Lug wrench
  • Ball joint press or C-clamp and adapters
  • Socket set and wrenches
  • Pry bar
  • Hammer
  • Torque wrench
  • Penetrating oil
  • Rubber mallet (optional)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, set parking brake, and loosen lug nuts on the wheel for the side to be serviced.
  2. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners and allow to soak if bolts are corroded.
  4. Remove any cotter pins and loosen the castellated nut securing the ball joint stud to the steering knuckle; do not fully remove yet.
  5. Separate the ball joint stud from the knuckle using a ball joint separator or by carefully striking the knuckle near the taper to release the stud.
  6. Remove control arm-to-frame fasteners as needed to gain access to the ball joint, supporting the control arm to prevent sudden drop.
  7. Use a ball joint press or appropriate C-clamp adapter to press out the old ball joint from the control arm.
  8. Clean the control arm bore of rust and debris, then press the new ball joint into place until fully seated.
  9. Reinstall the control arm if removed, align the ball joint stud with the steering knuckle, and install the castellated nut. Torque to factory specification and insert a new cotter pin if required.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, torque lug nuts to spec, and perform a wheel alignment as recommended after suspension work.
