Inner tie rod end for 1965-1970 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and passenger cars. This direct-fit steering component secures the inner end of the steering linkage to the rack or center link, restoring proper alignment and steering geometry. Precision-machined threads and a durable ball-socket joint reduce play and vibration, improving steering response and safety. Built for longevity and straightforward replacement, it’s ideal for restoration projects, routine maintenance, or upgrading worn steering components.
Features:
  • Fits 1965–1970 Chevrolet and GMC trucks and passenger cars (inner tie rod end, right or left hand application).
  • Precision-machined threads and ball-socket for accurate steering alignment and reduced play.
  • Durable construction resists wear and maintains reliable steering response over time.
  • Protective dust boot helps prevent contamination and extend service life.
  • Direct-replacement design for straightforward installation in restoration or maintenance work.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 60-120 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • jack and jack stands
  • wheel chocks
  • lug wrench
  • wrench set or socket set
  • tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • adjustable wrench
  • torque wrench
  • penmark or paint for alignment reference
  • grease (if applicable)
Instructions:
  1. Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen front wheel lug nuts, lift vehicle with jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Locate the inner tie rod end where the steering linkage connects to the rack or center link. Clean area to expose mounting and lock nut.
  4. Mark the position of the outer tie rod-to-inner tie rod threads with paint or a scribe to preserve alignment reference.
  5. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castellated nut (if equipped) at the outer tie rod end. Use a tie rod puller or pickle fork to separate the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
  6. Loosen and remove the lock nut securing the inner tie rod to the outer tie rod. Unscrew the inner tie rod from the rack or center link using an adjustable wrench or inner tie rod tool as required.
  7. Compare the new inner tie rod to the old part to confirm correct hand (right/left) and thread orientation. Install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the rack or center link to the marked reference position.
  8. Tighten the inner tie rod to the specified torque. Reattach the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut to specification, inserting a new cotter pin if applicable.
  9. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to spec.
  10. Because thread marks are only an approximation, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure correct steering geometry and tire wear.
