Outer tie rod end (right or left hand) designed for direct-fit replacement on 1997–2013 Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac vehicles. This steering linkage component connects the steering rack to the steering knuckle, translating steering input into wheel movement while maintaining alignment and safe handling. Built with a corrosion-resistant metal housing, precision ball stud, and sealed dust boot, it restores steering responsiveness, reduces play, and helps prevent uneven tire wear. Ideal for routine maintenance or restoration projects, this tie rod end offers dependable performance and straightforward installation to get vehicles back on the road with confidence.
Features:
- Fitment: Direct-fit outer tie rod end for 1997–2013 Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac models (right or left hand).
- Durable construction: Heavy-gauge metal housing and precision-machined ball stud for long service life.
- Sealed design: Integrated dust boot protects the joint from dirt and moisture to extend component life.
- Restores steering: Eliminates play and improves steering response and vehicle tracking.
- Easy to install: Direct replacement with OE-style thread and taper reduces installation time.
- Maintenance and restoration: Ideal for suspension repairs, restoration projects, and preventive maintenance.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 30–90 minutes (per side)
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake, and chock rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise the vehicle with a jack, and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle where it connects to the inner tie rod/steering rack.
- Loosen the jam nut securing the outer tie rod to the inner tie rod but do not remove it. Count or measure the number of exposed threads or measure overall length to preserve alignment.
- Remove the cotter pin and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut on the tie rod ball stud. If present, separate the ball stud from the steering knuckle using a ball joint separator or by striking the knuckle with a mallet (avoid damage).
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod. If reinstalling a new tie rod end, screw it in to the same thread count or measured length to maintain approximate alignment.
- Thread the new tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the recorded setting. Insert the ball stud into the steering knuckle and tighten the retaining nut to the vehicle manufacturer’s specified torque. Install a new cotter pin if required.
- Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod end (if applicable) and ensure all fasteners are torqued to spec.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Because precise steering geometry is critical, have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after replacement to ensure proper toe and to prevent tire wear.
